Medisafe

After my grandmother got diagnosed with Diabetes she had to take medication every day. Several older adults have to take multiple medications on a daily basis and often struggle to keep in mind the timings of the dosage. As a result, they may miss out on medication.. The app Medisafe provides a solution to this problem by providing a daily reminder with all the medications you have to take. The app also provides users with information about the medication. All you have to do is sign in and enter the medications you take, and at what time you want to take them. The app will then notify you at the required time.

StepsApp

Staying active is a must for healthy ageing. Eating right, daily exercise, walking and jogging are some of the best ways to do it.But it can have a better impact if you are able to track how many calories you are burning or the extent of physical exercise you are putting yourself into. The app StepsApp helps you track exactly this. With a GPS system in the app, you can track the number of steps you walk a day and can measure the distance and calories burned from walking and jogging. All you have to do is log onto the app, add your height and weight. My grandmother uses this app to stay on top of her health. Every morning she wakes up and puts her phone in her pocket, and by the end of the day, she gets to know how many calories she burned and the distance she has walked.

Shazam

Ever had a music nostalgia moment when you can’t recall a tune  but want to listen to the song very much?  Most do, especially seniors who can’t recall the names of old songs on the radio. Shazam offers a solution here. With the ability to input music and output an accurate name of the song being played, you can listen to the songs of the past you can't remember. All you have to do to use Shazam is just open the app and tap the Shazam logo. The app then displays the song's name and singer.

Pocket

Most senior citizens tend to have trouble reading as they get older, and with the new age of smartphones, the letters have gotten smaller and harder to read. Pocket is a free app that allows you to find articles and listen to their audio version as well as read them. All you have to do is go to their discovery tab, scroll through the article, select the one you like, and then listen! Pocket also allows you to save articles, so you can listen to or read them at a later date.

The power of technology is immense and to utilise it well, older adults can try to become tech savvy, get to know how to download the appropriate application from the play store or  app store and use it. In order to become pro with technology, you can sign in for Silver Talkies’ specially curated tech class for seniors and keep on enjoying the plethora of benefits that technology has to offer.
